<p>With more than 200,000 employees, the VA health care system is one of the largest health care providers in the world. The Department of Veterans Affairs offers veterans one of the largest, most technologically advanced health care systems in the United States. The VA has over 150 medical centers, 875 ambulatory and community-based outpatient clinics, 136 nursing homes, and many other facilities, including 206 vet centers and 43 readjustment counseling centers, across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.</p>
<p><strong>Description</strong></p>
<p>The VA Medical Center at Memphis is a university affiliated, tertiary center with full surgical and sub specialty coverage. The Emergency Department is made up of two (2) interconnected areas. There is an acute, 24/7 area as well as a non-acute component that functions 7 days a week but with more limited hours. The incumbents will be expected to work comfortably in the acute and non-acute areas.  The preferred candidates will be board certified in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or similar training with ER experience, and hold an unrestricted medical license. ACLS is also a requirement.<span class="bodycopy"> </span><span id="more-70"></span></p>
<p><strong>Location and Facility Description</strong></p>
<p>The medical center is a fully accredited 80-bed acute medical and surgical care facility offering primary and subspecialty outpatient care with over 700 employees and nearly 400 volunteers dedicated to serving our veteran population; Affiliated with the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University, Huntington, WV is a university town (Home of the Marshall University Thundering Herd) located on the banks of the Ohio River adjacent to Ohio and Kentucky offering many cultural and outdoor activities to enhance the enjoyment of all four seasons of the year with relaxed lifestyle and affordable living. Minimal driving distance to several larger metropolitan areas such as Lexington, KY, Columbus and Cincinnati, OH and Charleston, WV.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong></strong><strong>Citizenship</strong> – US Citizenship required unless <span style="text-decoration: underline;">US</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> Citizens are <strong>not</strong> available</span>.  Non-citizens may be appointed when no citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health.  The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) supports the Exchange Visitor Program and the 2-year home residence requirement and seeks waivers only when it is clearly in the interest of the Department and its programs.</li>
<li><strong>Education</strong> – Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.</li>
<li><strong>Licensure and Registration</strong> – Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, of Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia.</li>
<li><strong>Physical Standards</strong> – Applicant must meet the physical standards established for this position.</li>
<li><strong>English Language Proficiency</strong> – Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(s) and 7407(d).</li>
<li><strong>Education </strong>must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement).  Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.</li>

<p><strong>Description</strong></p>
<p>The Medical Center is seeking a full-time <strong>Board Certified/Board Eligible Medical Oncologist </strong>to join our dynamic staff.  Direct consultative patient care of oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings will be required.  Candidates must have an interest in teaching and the credentials for a faculty appointment. Generous benefits are available including malpractice coverage and limited on-call responsibilities. Relocation expenses and/or bonus may be negotiated.</p>
<p>Applicant selected for position may be eligible to apply for an award up to $38,000 under the provisions of the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). <span id="more-67"></span></p>

<p><strong>Requirements</strong></p>
<p>You must have specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.</p>
<p><strong>Specialized Education:</strong></p>
<p>You must show successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a degree for doctor of medicine in the field related to the job to which you are applying.  After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in writing, reading and speaking English You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials in Any US State/Territory/Commonweath or District of Columbia for this position. You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position. Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.</p>

<li>Evaluates patients with complex disabilities to determine current levels of functioning, utilizing standard and nonstandard methods and techniques.</li>
<li>Independently develops and implements Physical Therapy treatment plan directed toward achieving maximum level of functioning.</li>

<p>Demonstrated possession of the knowledge’s, skills, abilities and other characteristics needed to provide physical therapy services in a therapeutic setting or Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree.</p>
<p>This includes:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Synergy, in conjunction with the United States Government and Department of Veteran Affairs is currently seeking a Psychiatrist for immediate appointment to the VA Medical Center located in Memphis, Tennessee.  With more than 200,000 employees, the VA health care system is one of the largest health care providers in the world. The Department of Veterans Affairs offers veterans one of the largest, most technologically advanced health care systems in the United States. The VA has over 150 medical centers, 875 ambulatory and community-based outpatient clinics, 136 nursing homes, and many other facilities, including 206 vet centers and 43 readjustment counseling centers, across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. <span id="more-52"></span> Duties:  Perform all duties and responsibilities of an inpatient/outpatient staff psychiatrist.</p>
<ol>
<li>Inpatient services:  providing assessment and medication management/stabilization while leading the treatment team in all settings Acute/Intermediate/Long-Term Care</li>
<li>Consultation/liaison services:  providing consultation to all areas of inpatient services outside Psychiatry, i.e., Medicine, Surgery, Transitional Care Units (Nursing Home)</li>
<li>Outpatient services:  providing assessment and medication management/stabilization in all settings, i.e., Psychiatry Ambulatory Care Services (PACS), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP), Psychiatry Walk-in Clinic/Triage/ER, and performing Mental Health and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Compensation and Pension examinations</li>
<li>Supervision:  providing supervision to Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants, Psychiatry Resident Physicians, Psychology Interns, Medical Students, and Advanced Practice Nursing Students.</li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Must be clinically competent to perform examinations, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment, be effective in handling emergencies, patient management, supervision of trainees, independent practitioners, and support staff, and document in patient records.</li>
<li>Must manage unscheduled mental health patients in crisis into daily schedule. Must be effective in teaching (patient education, trainees, and co-workers).</li>
<li>Must be effective in planning, using administrative judgment and should have sound decision making skills.Individual to provide professional direction and participate as the leader of the treatment team (which includes clinical staff – registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social worker, recreation therapists, dietitians, and primary care provider), evaluate, develop and implement treatment plans.</li>
<li>Individual will follow and meet all VAMC Memphis policies, rules, and regulations.</li>
<li>Individual will be required to utilize the electronic medical record and other computer programs available to staff medical center for both inpatient services and outpatient services.</li>
<li>Individual will participate in organization meetings as requested.</li>
<li>Individual is required to have Basic Life Support Certification.</li>
<li>Normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with 30 minute lunch break, and on-call duties in rotation with other clinicians.  The on call rotation is shared by all psychiatrists, currently eight.</li>
<li>Individual will be under the supervision of the Chief, Mental Health Service.</li>
</ul>
<p>Expected Pharmaceutical guidelines:</p>
<ul>
<li>In selecting pharmaceutical preparations, the physician is expected to be cost conscious while maintaining the VAMC Memphis formulary restraints.</li>
<li>Medication will be prescribed to last until subsequent appointments.</li>
